What Is an MTN Mobile Money Token?

An MTN Mobile Money token is generated when an MTN Mobile Money subscriber sends money to someone who is not registered on MTN Mobile Money.

How to Generate a Token on MTN Mobile Money

There are two ways to generate a token:

• Using the MTN Mobile Money USSD code
• Using the MyMTN Mobile App

How to Generate an MTN MoMo Token Using the USSD Code

1. *Dial 170# on your phone.
2. Choose option 1 to transfer money.
3. Choose option 2 to transfer to a non-MoMo user.
4. Enter the receiver’s name and tap "Next."
5. Enter the amount and tap "Next."
6. Enter a reference and tap "Next."
7. Enter a secret code (any four-digit number).
8. Confirm the secret code and tap "Next" to continue.
9. Enter your Mobile Money PIN to confirm the transaction.

You will receive a prompt confirming the transaction.

MTN will then send you an SMS with the details of the token, which includes:

• The amount transferred
• Token number (e.g., 089232989232)
• Transaction ID
• Fees charged (GHS 1.50)

Note: Remember to send the token ID and secret code to the receiver. They will use this information to withdraw the money.

How the Recipient Can Cash Out the MTN MoMo Token

If the recipient is not registered on MTN Mobile Money, they must visit a mobile money agent with the token details provided by the sender. The recipient needs to give the agent the following details:

• Token number
• Secret code
• Ghana Card number

Once the agent receives these details, they can process the token and withdraw the cash for the recipient.

How an Agent Can Withdraw an MTN MoMo Token

If you are an agent, follow these steps after receiving the token details:

1. *Dial 171# on your phone.
2. Select option 2 for cash out.
3. Select option 2 to withdraw the token.
4. Enter the token number.
5. Select the ID card type.
6. Enter the ID number.
7. Enter the secret code.
8. Enter your MoMo PIN.

The cash-out will be successful, and the recipient will receive the money.
